Domestic and Public Spheres

In this section of the reading, I was interesting in knowing how this subject related to the book Frankenstein. While reading, I realized that there were spheres represented in the book where women had the domestic space and the men having the public space. The family was portrayed as having a patriarchal authority. This concept showed in the reading when Elizabeth joins the Frankenstein family household and becomes Victors "pretty present". Women during this time were treated as nothing more than prized possessions. In the book, the women give up their lives and and their autonomy because they want to please the men in their lives. Reading this part of the packet made me realize that "The Dolls House" had the same concept as Frankenstein which shows how women are constantly suppressed and ignored to please the men in their lives and boost their ego.
