Chapter 4 - In this chapter of “The things they carry” Tim talked about his internal struggle of doing what he things is morally correct to him or doing what society thinks is morally correct. I enjoyed reading this chapter because it showed a very realistic scenario that a lot of people espically adolescence go through. I could relate to this story because throughout my high school career, I have done many things that I did not want to for the sake of doing it because if I don’t, people will have a negative timprsssion of me. Tim tries to run away to Canada to escape an “unnecessary” war that he would “rather die than fight”. However, soon societies pressures become a huge part in him deciding to go back home and fight the war. He gives into what society thinks it’s right for him to do. This chapter shows how Tim would rather be a coward and fight a war he does not believe in than stand up for what he believes is right. I was very shocked to see that Tim agreed to go to war because he did not think it was morally correct.
